ShootMania Storm - So that's where my Level Editor went!!

Shootmania, FPS, Trackmania, Level Editor

An interesting  thought occurred to me the other day that I'm pretty sure many of us have wondered over the last few years.

Where the hell did our Level Editors go in First Person Shooters?

When I used to play Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem and all the other First Person Shooters that were available at the time, there were several tools that could be used to create maps, and in some cases even change the way that the game played.

Nowadays the more popular multiplayer FPS games (Call of Duty and Battlefield as an example) have no community created maps or mods available whatsoever. Instead we're forced to fork out more cash (and having to wait long periods of time) to purchase map packs created by the developer.

Needless to say, I started writing an article about this, aptly titled "Level Editors in Multiplayer - A Feature Forgotten?" and about halfway through writing the article (as I picked at the internet for juicy morsels of information and facts)...I came across something that blew my article right out of the water.

Shootmania, FPS, Trackmania, Level Editor

The article I came across was for an upcoming title called "ShootMania Storm" which is currently in development by Nadeo and set to be published by Ubisoft.

If the word "Mania" in the titles rings any bells, you may be familiar with another much-loved series of games from the same developer. - Trackmania.

Shootmania, FPS, Trackmania, Level Editor

Trackmania, (for those of you who never played any of these games) is a series of arcade racing games that became incredibly popular due to it's user-friendly track creation tools.

These tools allowed you to create your own tracks and set up stunts.

Once done, you could race the track, perform stunts and pretty much do anything you wanted. These tracks also allowed you to share it with others online.

Shootmania, FPS, Trackmania, Level Editor

Nadeo is now set to bring the same amount of customization to it's own breed of Multiplayer First Person Shooter, and will finally give us the variation that is so lacking in the genre today.

The game appears to have taken much of its inspiration from fast-paced shooters like Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament and will play out at a similarly frantic pace.

Shootmania, FPS, Trackmania, Level Editor

However, there are some key differences to both gameplay and style.

Shootmania Storm won't have any form of explosions, and will instead focus on shooting as it's main form of damage.

The game will also not contain any Blood or gore and be will be specifically tailored with e-sports in mind.

An unusual choice made by the developer is that of weapon selection with only one weapon available for standard usage and contains 4 plasma bursts that once used will require some time to re-load.

Although unusual, this dynamic will allow skill to prevail in online matches and not weapon choice.

Shootmania, FPS, Trackmania, Level Editor
There will be specific block in the game (called "Rail-Blocks") that will provide you with an incredibly accurate and deadly rail-gun for use when standing on that block. Stepping off the bock will mean losing the weapon and provides some interesting tactical choices to make.

Other blocks will be available on release (such as jump-pads) and the scripting utility can be used to create your own.

Shootmania will be released in 3 parts on PC, with the first being "Storm" that will be released soon, and the second being "Cryo". The title of the third release has not been announced as of yet.

With my previous article scrapped, the question of where my level editor disappeared to may have been answered. (in one game at least)

I just hope that other games start doing the same.

Bastion Review

Somewhere in the mists of the Calamity’s aftermath, the Kid wakes to his world. His family, friends, and all he’s ever known in Caelondia are gone, turned to dust—all but his hammer. He leaves his home, striking out along a long-gone road, revisiting the crumbling ruins of shops long gone. This was his life, as one of the fortunate few the Calamity spared, fighting through hordes of Squirts and Windbags, fighting to survive, every day the same struggle.
Then he found the Bastion.
He found me.
He saw our home, our ruins, our leftovers.
He began to start anew.
The Kid travelled across the city, through alleys and bogs, mines and forests, scouring the land for cores, shards of power to keep our humble little bastion afloat. Where he went, he was met with resistance; the ones the Calamity hadn’t touched, savage, cruel beasts. He took them all on, and he took them all down, mastering everything from hammers to flamethrowers, pikes to machetes. And all the while, our home grew, piece by piece. The Kid found more survivors, bringing them back to the bastion, making friends out of strangers. He went through more hardships than most Caelondians go through in a lifetime, and every time he came out even stronger than he went in.
Even in the end, faced with a choice that would kill lesser men, he pushed on, for the greater good. For the Bastion's wellbeing.

For us.

Gearing Up for Guild Wars 2 - 'Dynamic Events'

In your traditional MMO,quests are given by an NPC and that's generally an NPC with an enlarged piece of punctuation floating above their heads.

When you interact with a bearer of floating punctuation, you are greeted with the most daunting thing ever to appear in an MMO - The Giant Wall of Text. The idea is that you read through this slog of back story and get an idea for why it is you are about to go on a Quest.

In reality, a good deal of people simply skip to the part where the NPC tells them what they'll get for decapitating X amount of "insert monster name here", and then hit accept.

Having discovered  (although not actually) the dilemma of the NPC,  you then set out to perform the task and quite often your task seems completely meaningless. For example - Beleaguered farmer asks you to kill 10 wolves as they are ravaging his herds. In reality these wolves are nowhere NEAR the farmers sheep, and taking out 10 of them generally makes you feel like some sort of animal hater.

And no matter what you do,the beleaguered farmer is still there, asking the next passerby, and the next,to depopulate the wolves in the area.

Guild Wars 2 is hoping to change all that.

They're implementing what they're calling a "Dynamic Events" system.First to go is the GWOT,or Great Wall of Text, which is a marvel...as the hate of it can be seen from cyberspace.Instead of punctuation bearers, you will hear about quests from the world around you, or see events happening that you can interact with.

Using the previous example, the beleaguered farmer from before would now be running around like a headless chicken, begging passersby for help as wolves actively chow down on his stock behind him. They're also saying that your actions count, so if you don't stop the wolves then aforementioned farmer will eventually be without stock, go bankrupt, have to sell his farm, and turn into an alcoholic to get away from the pain of it all.

...Or something like that.

These promised changes don't just  affect players on a smaller scale, they also have larger events in mind. In other words, "enemy armies emerging from the bowels of the earth" type events.

These larger events are intended to bring players together, and if the required amount of players don't answer the call the event doesn't  end. Instead, the army will then have a foothold into the world, and spread from there.

If you DO rally enough players to win the day and push the invading army back, you will then be able to push forward through the enemy ranks to try and find generals to take out etc.

And never fear for your loot, the game is being made so that events scale to your party size - so more players means more enemies and more loot.

They're even saying that if someone drops out halfway through an event the game will scale back so remaining players aren't stuck with an insurmountable amount of enemies.

All in all,if the Guild Wars 2 team manages to pull off just these few promised things, it will certainly be a game to remember.

Modern Warfare 3, why aren’t diehards playing it?

We can all agree that the Call of Duty series is a very successful one.

Whenever a new one comes out fans will easily spend a lot of money on the new title. Modern Warfare 3 was one of the most looked forward to game of 2011, but when people bought it, they weren’t as satisfied with it, like they were with previous titles.

...and I think I know why.

When people bought Call of Duty 4 and 6 it was different. People were lured it by the new graphics and the gameplay changes, and when the trailers for MW3 were released, people were excited but also sceptical.

When I first saw the MW3 trailer I immediately thought - "Hey, this looks a lot like MW2". It looked a little too much like MW2 as far as I was concerned.

The maps and guns looked very similar to the ones in MW2, and the HUD was also very much the same. To me, MW3 ended up being more of a large patch or DLC than a new game.

The largest difference between COD 4 and MW2 was the graphics and the general look of it. You could see that the graphics had a major overhaul. The HUD had changed and the killstreak system was completely new.

MW2 was more customizable, but MW3 took the customization thing a bit too far, and concentrated on that more than the actual gameplay.

This is probably the reason that I’m not really playing MW3 and actually prefer COD 4 and other FPS's including Killzone 3. I also enjoy even and balanced gameplay. I don’t like it when someone else has a massive advantage over someone else because of a gun or perk that they use.

After people played MW2 they also wanted more balanced gameplay. They were unhappy with gameplay elements that included the Grenade Launchers, Commando, One Man Army, and so on.

After playing MW3 for myself, I feel that the developers didn’t really take this into consideration.

My personal opinion is that the Call of Duty franchise will eventually start losing popularity due to the poor reception that their most recent titles have been getting from the more experienced military shooter fans.

And, I don’t think I’ll be getting Black Ops 2 if it get's announced...unless they make a change.

New God of War for PS3 - God of War Ascension

Rumors have been floating around for quite a while on development of God of War 4.

Starting with job postings a few months ago that hinted at a new title being released for PS3, plenty of speculation began to circulate about the validity of this rumor.

Last week, a picture on the the Playstation Facebook page (below) surfaced that seemed to suggest that the rumor was true.

However, today it was finally confirmed.

Amazon has revealed the games's box art (as seen above), as well as a teaser trailer for the game.

While the teaser trailer shows no gameplay...it's narrative suggests that the game may serve as a prequel to the previous games.

Keep your eyes peeled for more information to follow.

Resident Evil - Operation Raccoon City - Great Success - Mission 3 Lights Out S+ Walkthrough

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJshoKRTWqA
Welcome,
I'm making guides that are both quick & informative
so there's less watchuing & more playing.
This is a S+ run on the third Mission Lights Out.

Target Scores:
Kills: 110
Deaths: 3
Items Collected: 20
Clear Time: 35:00

In this mission you will fight normal zombies, crimson heads, soldiers, a boss called Nicholai and meet hunters for the first time (but you do not have to kill the hunters).
There are three tricky parts:
When you meet the hunters inside the burning building just rush through the area instead of fighting them.
When fighting Nicholai (the sniper boss) stay right under the balcony and keep shooting him with your samurai edge. Do not use grenades on him, it's a waste of time.
The final part in some sort of machine room is by far the hardest. Fortunately, you are allowed to die 3 times. After activating the first console your rush right to the next target. Stay behind the generator and kill the two soldiers. Activate generator #1 and activate the console that is down the stairs. Immediately turn to your right and throw a flashbang + grenades in the room where soldiers are coming out. Make sure you pick up the green health spray. Run directly to the next generator and console and activate them. Now rush to generator #3 and activate it.

Cryptic Bethesda Screenshot not Skyrim DLC - Dishonored Teaser

Dishonored, Bethesda rumor, Skyrim fake DLC announcement, rumor

Yesterday the rumor mill was churning once again with potential news of am Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim expansion or DLC announcement .

A single screenshot on Bethesda's Twitter account (above) and a post that stated "Tomorrow", got everyone excited for what seemed to many as a precursor to an official announcement of more Skyrim content.

The screenshot was cryptic and misleading in that it showed us very little of what was to follow.

As it turns out, the screenshot was actually from a Teaser Trailer of "Dishonored", a Steam-punk First Person Stealth Game.

Also, developed by Bethesda, it does however look to be like a very interesting title.

Check out IGN's Teaser Trailer for it here:

Kid Icarus: Uprising - An Angelic Experience

Once upon a time there was a game on the Nintendo Entertainment System known as Kid Icarus that met with mixed reviews. A simple platformer that had a difficulty curve like a brick wall. Once you got the hang of it though, you got turned into an eggplant. Then you'd turn off the game and play Mario Bros.

Kid Icarus: Uprising is the new 3DS action platformer spectacular. Eggplants are still involved but not so much a problem anymore. Nintendo had been holding out on this project since early Wii days. Anyone who played Smash Bros Brawl would know that Pit, or Spammy the Spam Angel, is the main character of Kid Icarus. As a Smash fighter he could spam arrows, spam melee and spam jump/fly. He could also summon a ton of cherubs during his super smash attack that were almost impossible to avoid.

Pit has maintained his voice, model and attitude from Brawl and given a bigger, less spammy, arsenal too. This is unsurprising as the lead designer, Masahiro Sakurai, was in charge of both (and Kirby - which would explain why Kirby and Pit seemed to be the only ones who knew what was going on in Brawl). The game also has a habit of looking at the fourth wall and smashing it with a comedically over-sized hammer. Making references to the previous game, or just silly banter between the Goddess Palutena and Pit really gives the game life in a way that's seldom done. The voice acting is amazing, and even the over the top villains sound more funny than annoying, each with their own characteristics. And full voice acting in a Nintendo game!!! GASP!

The game has a somewhat unique control system, similar to that of Metroid Prime Hunters. You move Pit with your analogue stick, fire with the L button and aim with your stylus, almost a keyboard/mouse thing. A system that took me a few minutes to get the hang of, but as you play the game you find yourself easily adapting to it. All of a sudden you're dodging enemies, spinning around them and opening up all sorts of cans of whip-ass seamlessly. And all this after a very fun on-rails-esque shooter, which is part of the level intro. Pit flies to his destination, guided by his Goddess, and the player aims and shoots for him. Very "Shmuppy" but very enjoyable. You use the lower screen to aim, but watch everything on the upper screen. Eventually you shoot and dodge like it's second nature, and find yourself upping the difficulty for sheer challenge.

The amount of extra content is amazing, especially for modern gaming where they like to 'surprise' us with day 1 DLC. The menus are fantastically designed and customised perfectly for the entire game. There's little trophies you can collect, similar to that of Brawl, and even using your Nintendo coins, or Spot and Street Pass hits, to gain little extras. Theres tons of weapons to collect, fuse and trade. There's a little puzzle/achievement thing that rewards you with hearts and items. And there's even a little bonus where you can get "closer" to Paletuna by donating hearts to her alter. All this extra content sprinkled over the already amazing single player sundae that is Uprising.

And the multiplayer, praise Paletuna for the multiplayer. Nintendo is learning the ways of online gaming.
So in this reviewers humble opinion, brilliant single player, amazing multiplayer (online and local) and a cornocupia of gifts thrown in for good measure and all you're missing is a little cartoon...
oh wait...

Resident Evil - Operation Raccoon City - Great Success -Mission 2 S+ Walkthrough

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FX6Uj-k2fto

Welcome,
This is an S+ run on the second Mission Corruption.
Target Scores:
Kills: 150
Deaths: 1
Items Collected: 20
Clear Time: 35:00
In this mission you will fight normal zombies, soldiers and meet lickers for the first time (the lickers do not need to be killed). You have more than enough time, so don't feel rushed. Getting 150 kills is a little difficult without farming them. There are 2 hard parts in this mission:
First one is the ambush where you have to fight 3 waves of soldiers. Take out the first two waves quickly and try to keep your teammates alive. Use your grenades
against group 3 and always stay behind cover.
The other tricky part is where you have to fight more soldiers in some sort of hallway,
before you enter the room where you have to destroy the plans. Fight your way through
the left hallway (there should be a health spray in one of the rooms). Don't worry about the right hallway. Once the left hallway is cleared, throw a couple of flashbangs and rush to the next checkpoint. In the room with the lickers, simply grab the key
in the middle and do not fight the lickers at all. Right after the room with the lickers you can farm some more kills to reach the target of 150. An infinite amount of
slow walking zombies will spawn here and they are fairly easy targets.

Resident Evil - Operation Raccoon City - Mission 1 Containment S+ Walkthrough

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLqrDyAgmDo
Welcome,
This is an S+ run on the first Mission Containment.
You will only have to fight soldiers and cerberus dogs in this mission. Just shoot everything that moves. There is no real strategy required in this mission since it is really easy and straight forward. Use the Samurai Edge to shoot out of cover. To make your shots more accurate aim out of cover for 2-3 seconds and quickly shoot one enemy. When the mutated boss appears you will need to run away from him. Just shoot his eye (on his right shoulder) if he tries to tackle you.

Target Scores:
Kills: 32
Deaths: 1
Items Collected: 12
Clear Time: 25:00

Happy Gaming.

Skyrim DLC finally announced tomorrow?

This will be the second post regarding Skyrim Announcements in the last week...except this one only happens tomorrow.

The first was about the Kinect-enabling patch for Xbox which looks to be released later this month, but information leaked earlier today may hint at another major announcement from Bethesda regarding their first official DLC pack.

While details on the first official Skyrim DLC have been slim, Bethesda pointed out that DLC would be "fewer in number, but larger in size", indicating something more comparable to an Expansion pack than simple DLC.

The only hints at what may be revealed tomorrow were shown today in the form of one solitary screenshot. (as seen above)

Likely to arrive on Xbox 360 first (and possibly going hand in hand with the Kinect Support announcement, the DLC pack may very well be officially announced tomorrow.

Check back here to find out more.

Resident Evil - Operation Raccoon City - Like A Bee - Skill... Or Luck - Up Close And Personal & On A Roll Trophy Guide

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNjeNZCvBsM
Welcome,
First off this is a Boosting Guide to these Trophies, I find Boosting just as much fun, especially if you don't have much time to play. This guide also shows the Up Close & Personal Trophy.
Please note: On kill 5 I shouldn't have killed the player instead we should have teamed against the Hunter.

In this guide we go after three Trophies:

On A Roll: Achieve a 5 kill streak in a Versus match.

Up Close and Personal: Kill 5 players in one multiplayer game with CQC Kills.
(Close Quarters Combat)

Skill... Or Luck?: Achieve a 10 kill streak in a Versus match.

Like a Bee: Kill 10 enemy players in one multiplayer game with CQC.

How to Boost 10 CQC Kills in One Game:
1.Have at least 1 boosting ready to accept an invite.

2.Start a Private match on Survivor and invite your boosting partner.

3.Select any Stage map you wish.

4.When the match starts run to the gas station roof of opposing team & kill the player.

5.Your boosting partner then re spawns close by and then rinse and repeat.

6.The person who's going for the trophy must stay alive at all times.

Happy Gaming.
