The Upcoming Handheld Console War - Predictions

Handheld gaming has become increasingly popular over the years, and it's not really too surprising when you consider the fact that you're now able to play your games anywhere on the fly.

Just like their stationary counterparts, the technology has improved drastically over the years to the point where the handheld devices we play games on are even comparable to the consoles of the last generation.

Last year I purchased a Nintendo 3DS, and I was impressed. A far cry from the original Gameboy, the 3DS set itself apart from the Nintendo DS of the previous generation by giving us decent graphics and adding 3D without the need for glasses.

However, the biggest problem with the device was the line-up of games. The selection of games was sparse and not as varied as one might expect from a device that supported superior graphics from it's predecessors.

Due to this, the Nintendo 3DS didn't do as well as expected and I'm ashamed to say.....it sat unattended on my desk at home for quite some time.

Much has changed since my original purchase of it though, with games like Resident Evil Revelations, Super Mario 3D land and several other quality releases being added to the selection of games on offer.

Recently, the Playstation Vita was released and offers an interesting alternative to the 3DS. The graphics are far superior, it has a much larger initial lineup of games (22 titles) and features Dual Analog Controls.

.........And so begins the "Handheld Console War"!!

The Nintendo 3DS now has competition for the handheld gaming console space and even though the PS Vita's initial release in Japan was not received well, Nintendo still has a lot of work to do. Sony's line-up of games for the PS Vita seem to indicate that they're targeting the western market, and now that it's been released to the rest of the world, only time will tell.

If you take a look at the "Console War" between Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo with their home consoles...it's obvious that they often influence each other in the technological progress made (motion-gaming being the most recent example) and tend to try and improve on existing ideas that do well.

But the reason the console war is so important is because it pushes these companies to release quality titles (first-party titles as well as titles through third-party Developers) in droves in an attempting to add value to the console and to better their competitors.

So, as I see it, this is how the Handheld Console War is at the Present and will continue to play out in the Future. Of course, I may be proved wrong....but I'm almost certain they'll play off each others positive features.

There are obviously several factors that may change the dynamic entirely. The rising popularity of the Iphone and Tablets as gaming devices may change things significantly.......And then there's any number of unknown factors that may pop up..............what if Microsoft announces a handheld gaming platform? Not likely, but certainly game-changing if it happens.

The Handheld Console War as it is now and how it might change

Current

Step 1:

Nintendo realizes they have limited time before the Sony Vita is released and needs to increase sales. They drop the price of the 3DS, start releasing quality games (with more on the way) and also create a peripheral to add another Analogue stick, in an attempt to bridge the gap between The Vita's superior control system and theirs. Also, Demos are now available for download from the online store.

Step 2:

Sony releases the Vita with a massive line-up of games. Several major franchises available for the Playstation 3 are announced for the Vita as well, such as Uncharted, Call of Duty, Mortal Kombat and Metal Gear Solid HD Collection.

Predictions

Step 3:

Nintendo begins releasing a much larger selection of games , including a brand new Zelda game designed from the ground up. New Metroid and Pokemon games (a decent one) are announced and more third party developers begin to release games on the 3DS after it's recent success. A new Nintendo 3DS model is announced.

Step 4:
Sony Vita continues to release a large number of titles for the Vita, including a PS Vita God of War, Resistance and a new Metal Gear Solid Title. A possible Final Fantasy game specifically for the Vita may be announced in order to increase sales in Japan, with several other titles more catered to the Japanese market also announced to compete with the 3DS.

Step 5:

Nintendo announces a new Mario Game (either a Super Mario 3D Land 2, or a Super Mario Galaxy 3DS) and is bundled with the new 3DS model. Streetpass / Spotpass is supported by more games and some games will get this function through updated DLC. Third party titles will continue to be released as well and more frequently than before. The new Metroid game will also support online multiplayer. (possibly to compete in this space for when Call of Duty Vita is released)

 Step 6:
Sony drops the price of the PS Vita significantly, as well as the memory cards, and releases another PS Vita model. A "Platinum" selection of PS Vita games will complement the price drop of the console by giving us games like Uncharted and Wipeout at a reasonable price. DLC will become  available for many existing games.

Step 7:
Far from over, Sony and Nintendo compete on console price, game price and top game releases until the following generation of devices........providing us with a massive library on both platforms to keep us busy for a long time to come.

These are of course just predictions and may not come to pass at all.....but when looked at closely aren't unrealistic either.

Time will tell whether I'm right or wrong.

If you have any predictions on either console's future please let us know.

FFXIII-2 - Complete Lists For - Bestiary - Fragments - Fragment Skills & Outfits

Hello & welcome,
In this vid I show the completed lists for the Bestiary, Fragments, Fragment Skills & Outfits.
This is NOT a location guide (check my channel for those or ask me if you cant find a monster). I would have found this very useful when playing as sometimes you can see you need a Fragment but don't know what it is called therefore difficult to search for.
I really hope this helps!
Enjoy!

Ahoy all,
In this guide we show how to achieve the Clock Stopper Trophy ( 100 consecutive preemtive strikes ). I can confirm that the "Retry" method works 100% making this trophy a breeze!
Some tips, step away from the monster then run towards it before attempting your attack, save after ten or so successful strikes & load if you mess up.

FFXIII-2 - Coliseum Challenge - Lightning & Lieutenant Amodar Battle

Hay hay whats up!
In this vid we take on Lightning & Amodar in the Coliseum. (after downloading the DLC).
I've edited out a cut scene after staggering Lightning the first time, you also see
Lightning's Army Of One special move which is pretty cool!

Protect is an essential buff, along with any others you can throw down. I would suggest
KO ing Lightning first to avoid Army Of One but do the battle again and KO her second to see it.
Omega is my Monster for the first time so I'm not sure how effective he is but I'm keen to
level him up for fun & see him go up against regular Monsters.
This is a 5 star run on Normal Difficulty with Maxed Characters.
I've fought these two 8 times and still no Lightning Crystal (imagine Lightning maxed out in your team as a Ravager) but did bag Amodar on 3rd run. You can also get the Lightning Cross which significantly raises your Magic but greatly reduces your HP (7000 down to 3400) AND inflicts Perpetual Poison, nasty stuff.
Enjoy!

The Black Eyed Peas Experience Review - Dancing's never been this fun!!

Last year Ubisoft released a title for the Xbox Kinect that I had absolutely no interest in at all. Originally released for the Nintendo Wii, this game found it's way to the Kinect but was one of the games that I made sure to give a miss.

That title was "Michael Jackson - The Experience", a dancing game where you emulated dance moves to Michael Jackson's more popular songs, and although it might be have been a fun game to others, it certainly was not for me.

My reasons for having a lack of interest in this game were incredibly simple and biased....

Firstly.....Michael Jackson?...I've never really been the biggest fan of his music, to be honest and I couldn't see myself dancing to any of his songs either.

Secondly, I have had very little experience with dancing games, and the only time I had attempted it, I did not do very well at all.

Granted, it was only a few minutes playing a Demo of Dance Central at a Microsoft conference, but as I was quick to dicover.....emulating choreographed dance moves displayed on a screen is a lot harder than it looks.

Recently though, Ubisoft released a dancing game structured around a group of artists whose music I enjoy far more. - The Black Eyed Peas.

I went to one of their concerts here in Cape Town back in 2004 (during their Elephunk tour), and I was majorly impressed.  Each member of the group were equally talented in their own way, and made the concert an incredibly memorable and enjoyable event.

So, while doing my usual gaming purchases I came across a copy of the game "The Black Eyed Peas Experience" and decided to give the Dancing game genre another try.....I mean, now I could dance to music I actually enjoyed, and I could do it in the privacy of my home away from prying eyes.

Hell.....Maybe I'd even be good at it.

"No such luck" were my first thoughts after popping it into my Xbox and dancing (ok, stumbling....symantics be damned) to some of the first songs that I thought might be easier.

You start the game by stepping side to side with the black eyed peas on the screen, which I found was quite interesting and innovative.

As Introductory sections or Tutorials go, there were none to be found, but I continued to flail out of sequence until I finally began to adjust to this style of gameplay that was almost entirely new to me.

As it is with a majority of Kinect games....if you're good at it in real life then you'll be good at in the game. This is effectively the rule of thumb for The Black Eyed Peas Experience as well.

There are 30 songs to choose from (with more available as DLC) and all take some getting used to. The game rates these songs by difficulty, but many times the difficulty level shown is unbalanced and incorrect. While many of the songs on the easier levels are actually quite hard to master, there are other songs that show as being more difficult and are much easier to dance to. ("Shut up" is a good example - while the game shows it's difficulty level as Skilled, I found it was one of the easiest songs.)

The flip side of the coin is that even though the game is difficult, it does reward you relatively easily. Some of the moves I made seemed very little like the moves shown on the screen, but were still good enough to warrant a decent score.

While this may be due to a weak utilisation of the way the Kinect reads you, it actually benefits the game and makes it easier to get through.

The campaign mode allows you to create your own character and a host of unlockable items (such as clothing and venues) are available as you progress throughout the game.

There is even an option to develop you own choreography for the songs, and for many this may be essential, with some of the moves being incredible tough to pull off.

Although the game has a steep learning curve (especially for the uninitiated) and certainly has it's flaws, it's loads of fun and is definitely a good game to play with some friends.....albeit, close friends who don't judge.

7/10
