The Most Bad-Ass Heroes in Gaming (Part 2)

Here is Part 2 of my list of 13 of the Most Bad-Ass Heroes in Gaming. As mentioned before, these are more anti-heroes than heroes, and generally stray from the Moral norm.

For part 1 follow the link below to see who the first 6 contenders were:

The Most Bad-Ass Heroes in Gaming (Part 1)

Here are the rest and they definitely take the cake as true bad-asses, and are some of the most iconic anti-heroes in the history of gaming.

7.) Duke Nukem (Duke Nukem game series)

One of the original bad-asses of gaming, Duke has been around for longer than many of us may realize. He first made his appearance in the original Duke Nukem game for PC in 1991, which was one of the best side-scrolling platformers ever made.

The release of Duke Nukem 3D took the series to unprecedented heights, with its innovative weapons, cocky attitude, and quirky toilet humor.

Duke is as arrogant as they come, and doesn't seem to care that aliens want him dead. All Duke wants out of life is Women, Cigars, Beer and to Shoot things.

He loves to say things like "It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum... and I'm all outta gum".

Yeah, Duke... you never HAD any gum to begin with.

6:) Batman (Batman Arkham Asylum / City)

Batman originates in the popular DC comic book series, and is one of the greatest comic book heroes ever created.

Most of us at some point have dreamed of being Batman, with his awesome Gadgets, flowing Cape / Wings and the famous Bat-mobile at his disposal. During the day he's Bruce Wayne - Billionaire and Playboy. At night he's Batman, protecting Gotham from all manner of villains.

In 2009, Rocksteady Studios gave us our wish and Batman Arkham Asylum was released. One of the only comic book based games to actually be worthwhile, we finally had full access to his full arsenal of gadgets.

Recently, Batman: Arkham City was released as well (the sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum) and it surpassed the original in many ways. The most notable being the ability to fly around anywhere in Gotham City, finally allowing us to do everything Batman does.

5.) Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid)

The main protagonist from the more recent Metal Gear Solid series of games (though not the only one), he can sneak up on anyone when needing to.

A member of FOXHOUND, he is considered a mercenary.

He smokes, has a gritty voice and loves to hide in boxes, lockers and behind walls.

However, stealth is not the only weapon he uses.

He is a master of all weaponry, can maneuver through any traps and can defeat the most difficult of foes.

...Also, he sees Exclamation points above peoples heads, so a tad crazy as well.

4.) Agent 47

Agent 47 is the master of stealth and disguise.

Willing to do almost anything to kill his mark, he has often killed innocent people to steal their clothes and disguise himself to get close enough to assassinate his victim.

Truly an expert with a sniper rifle from afar, or a garrote up close, he also has a range of weapons available to him which he knows how to use equally as well.

Using his environment to take out enemies, he could be hiding in any shadow or on any rooftop.

He could be anyone at all, so make sure to check everyone's neck for Agent 47's signature bar code tattoo to make sure.

3.) Max Payne

Stripped of all the things he loved, Max Payne went from Cop to Vigilante when his wife and newborn child were brutally murdered by 3 apparent drug addicts who were high on a new drug called "Valkyr".

From that point on, Max goes on a rampage, taking out anyone responsible for the drugs presence and eventually finding out the truth behind his family's death.

Constantly haunted by his past, Max Payne has no remorse for his enemies and uses the games signature "bullet-time" mechanic in conjunction with the many guns available to him.

It's also worth noting that Max Payne will be returning in June this year for the 3rd game in the series.

2.) Marcus Fenix (Gears of War)

In a world gone to hell, only the COG can protect what's left of humanity from the terrifying locust swarm.

At the forefront of this group is Marcus Fenix, with his Lancer Assault Rifle. This Rifle is devastatingly potent, as it also has a chainsaw built in for up close and personal attacks.

Big, Brawny and hardened to a dying world, Marcus Fenix is as tough as nails and always in his enemies face.

Guns and grenades are his weapons of choice and he certainly knows how to use them.

And when the Lambent appeared to replace the Locust as the primary enemy, he proceeded to kick their collective asses as well.

And the Number 1 Bad-Ass in Video Games when  it comes to the characters we play is...

1.) Kratos (God of War)

Kratos was a warrior that served the Gods of Olympis, but after being betrayed by the God that gave him the power of the Blades of Chaos (Ares - God of War) and tricked into killing his Wife and child...he was understandably quite Upset.

Over the course of the God of War games, Kratos proceeds to eliminate all Monsters, Gods and anything else that may stand in his path on the way to vengeance.

Eventually at the end of the first game, he gains God-like power himself and becomes the new God of War. Kratos is covered in Red tattoos and wields some of the most powerful weapons ever seen in games to date.

So that's my list of the most Bad-Ass heroes / anti-heroes in video games. I realize that I have left out quite a few here, but some just didn't make the list (examples include - Jackie Estecado from The Darkness, Alex Mercer from Prototype and many more.)

Please comment below if you would like to add to the list.
