Peter Molyneux leaves Lionhead Studios

News hit today that Peter Molynuex is leaving Lionhead Studios and also Microsoft, to continue on with a completely new and completely unknown studio called "22 Cans"

Many readers may not know who Peter Molynuex is, so let me enlighten you regarding some of his endeavors and accomplishments.

The story of Peter Molyneux's accomplishments began in an entirely different industry altogether. He was involved in shipping baked beans......what does that have to do with Games?.......admitedly, absolutely nothing.

Shipping baked beans to the Middle East for a living was not his idea, but instead was an idea that sprung from his girlfriends father to generate income.

His starting company was named "Taurus", and the name would eventually prove to be paramount in his introduction to the gaming industry.

A company name Commodore (the company responsible for the Amiga) contacted Peter to request a meeting at the company offices.

At the meeting, he was presented with the Amiga 1000 and was tasked with creating a software application for the device.

This strange request was due to a clerical error on Commodore's part.....mistakenly confusing a software development company called "Torus" (with which they meant to request the software)......with Peter's Bean-shipping company called "Taurus".

Peter Molyneux remained silent and neglected to correct them!!!

Commodore continued unknowingly with the misguided deal and shipped several Amiga systems to Peter to proceed in development.

..............which he ended up doing regardless, with a great deal of success.

What followed was that Peter Molyneux ended up created the "Ultimate database" for the system, and eventually met up with the creator of a game called "Druid II" at a local pub.

The game ended up being ported to the Amiga System and effectively kick-started Peter's career into programming and eventually into Game development.

This simple baked-beans shipping company grew into Bullfrog Productions and ended up bringing us some of the most amazing games of that time. As ridiculous as this sounds........it actually happened.

What followed were games like Populous, Magic Carpet, Syndicate, Dungeon Keeper, and Theme Hospital which will always be some of the greatest classics of all time.

From there, Peter formed Lionhead Studios, which continued to bring us amazing games like Black and White, The Movies, Black and White 2......and the incredibly popularand brilliant Fable RPG series.

Peter Molyneux has always been well-known for overselling many of his games (and their features), and looking at his history......it's not too surprising.

He has always been an iconic and controversial personality in the gaming industry and when looking at the brilliance of his games........certainly one of the most influential.

I am very interested to see what come next in his career and what further gems will be released under his new studio.

This will almost certainly have an impact on gaming in later years.
