4 Best pieces of Equipment in Skyrim (and none of it can be Crafted)

Skyrim, RPG, Xbox, PS3, gaming, Skyrim Online, Gaming, Video Games, Online Gaming, Future Pixel

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of those games that allows an unprecedented amount of freedom when it comes to gameplay.

Those who have played the game know this, and those who haven't played it.............have almost certainly heard about it.

As with most games you're able to find out the majority of information regarding Quests, Levelling etc. via the Numerous Wiki's available on the internet.

However, when searching the internet for the best Armor and Weapons in the game, even the wikis fall short in that almost everyone says the same thing......A full set of crafted Daedric armor is the best armor you can get.

The same goes for weapons. As weapons go, Daedric weapons are considered the best you are able to get.

When looking at the games weapon and armor crafting professions (Enchanting and Blacksmithing) this is definitely true.

But when you play the game long enough....there are some things that stand apart from anything you're able to craft in the game.

These are 4 of the things you can acquire in the game that stand apart from the accepted norm and in majority of cases, are better than their Daedric counterparts.

Please note that this is certainly not a wiki or guide, but information regarding how to get them is readily available on the internet.

1.) Konahrik Mask

Skyrim, RPG, Xbox, PS3, gaming, Skyrim Online, Gaming, Video Games, Online Gaming, Future Pixel

Be warned..............this is a difficult piece of armor to acquire.

During the course of the main story line (and other story line's) you will end up fighting Dragon Priests. Many of these Dragon Priests drop masks that bestow specific abilities.

At first glance they may appear to be random (and not always the best pieces of armor), but in truth there are actually 8 masks to collect from specific Dragon Priests......for one main purpose.

If you manage to collect all of them, a trip to the central barrow (containing a broken shrine) in Labryinthian will allow you to collect a 9th wooden mask on the ground that allows you to collect the Ultimate Dragon Mask.

Putting the wooden mask on will allow you to travel back in time when the shrine is still intact. Putting all 8 Dragon Masks on the shrine will then open up the concealed middle section of the shrine containing the Konahrik Mask (The Ultimate Dragon Mask). All previous Dragon Masks are retrievable as well after unlocking Konahrik.....you know.......for sentimental reasons and whatnot.

This mask is entirely unique in that when the Player wears it they stand a chance to recover all their health when their health is low, knock back and damage all enemies around them,.................and occasionally summon a dragon priest to protect them.

Interesting to note is that this mask can be upgraded through Blacksmithing and has the highest armor rating in the game.

2.) Ebony Mail

Skyrim, RPG, Xbox, PS3, gaming, Skyrim Online, Gaming, Video Games, Online Gaming, Future Pixel

Many of you might be saying "Ebony armor? That's a lower level armor type to Daedric?."

Very true. But......I never said Ebony ARMOR, I said Ebony MAIL.

I completely understand the confusion, but let me explain..........................

The Ebony Mail Chest armor is actually completely separate from the craft-able armor set via blacksmithing.

It is acquired through the Daedric Quest - Boethiah's Calling, and is probably the most unique piece of Heavy armor in the game.

It's also my favorite piece of armor in the game.

Providing an impressive armor rating, it has the additional benefits of allowing you to move silently (unusual for Heavy armor) and deals 5 points of poison damage per second to enemies in a close radius.

This is the only piece of armor to provide an automatic DOT (Damage Over Time....in MMO terminology)

Less important is the fact that when going into sneak mode or into battle, you're covered by dark smoke.

It just looks really cool.

3.) Ebony Blade

Skyrim, RPG, Xbox, PS3, gaming, Skyrim Online, Gaming, Video Games, Online Gaming, Future Pixel

Again with the Ebony........Bethesda??? Are you trying to confuse us??

What is the most irritating thing about having a high-powered enchanted weapon?.....Soul Gems!!!

With any weapon we enchant, we need filled Soul Gems to give them power, and to be very honest it can get a bit annoying.

Firstly, we need to have the empty Soul Gems, then we need to either use the "Soul Trap Spell" or have an existing enchantment on our weapon to steal the soul.

Secondly, we need to actively recharge our weapons via the menu, worrying about how many charged Soul Gems we have, how many need to be charged, and how much weight are the Soul Gems taking up in our bag........blah....blah....blah!!!!

To acquire the Ebony Blade, you'll need to complete the "The Whispering door" Daedric Quest, and then on completing it (to get to it's maximum of 30 health points stolen per hit) you'll need to kill those who you've done good for or become close too. (yeah.....it's a complicated relationship with this weapon)

The Sword is NOT upgradeable by Blacksmithing.

Even though the Ebony Blade is not the most devastating of potential weapons, it is definitely a game changer. Coupled with the fact that you'll never need to use a Soul Gem again......TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!!!!

4.) Ring of Namira

Skyrim, RPG, Xbox, PS3, gaming, Skyrim Online, Gaming, Video Games, Online Gaming, Future Pixel

One of the most unique pieces of jewelry in the game is the Ring of Namira.

Acquired after the Daedric Quest "The Taste of Death" (providing you eat the flesh of Verulus) , it provides you with some disturbing, yet interesting abilities.

When wearing the ring, you automatically have a boost of +50 Stamina.

The more interesting benefit is from eating corpses. (Disgusting, but beneficial)

Any humanoid enemy you kill (playable races) allows you to eat their flesh after, and therefore get a boost to your Maximum health and health regeneration for a short time.

In a bind, this is quite useful.......but avoid using it in cities........people don't seem to like it much. (not too surprising)

As the game progresses I'm sure there are still some items that surprise me. As I find them, I'll let you know.

But at the moment these are the most useful and powerful items (armor, weapon or otherwise) I've been able to find.

  1. so apart from the Dragon priest mask. The rest are Daedric Quest pieces. I thought this was about items that weren't Daedric.

  6. for a article titled "4 Best pieces of Equipment in Skyrim (and none of it is Daedric)"
the fact that 3 out of the 4 items are in fact daedric proves that you are a complete moron. Additionaly you suck at fact checking, the Ebony Blade can't be upgraded with smithing and due to a glitch uses the one handed weapon perks

    You, sir, are a moron.

  7. "First of its fuck, now either go get some English lessons or add something good to say."

    --->First off, it's fuck...

Now YOU go and get some English grammar lessons.

  8. Ok, Firstly....what I meant by it not being Daedric is that the pieces are not part of the crafted Daedric armor pieces. (ie. Daedric Helmet, Daedric sword etc.) Although they may be acquired by doing the daedric quests, at no point is the word daedric in the item's title.

Secondly, to the guy calling me a moron (as much so as you seem to be apparently).....see above regarding the title. You are correct in that the Ebony Blade is NOT upgradable with blackmithing.I neglected to add the NOT in there. My mistake and I will amend it now, so thanks for the correction.

  9. Wow there isn't a single decent comment on here yet. It's all just complaining...

  10. Agreed, but I have a light hand on filtering spam.......let me pose a question to keep things fresh and promote constructive comments.

Which items in Skyrim do you find the most beneficial?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Actually I agree with the article. However sad as this may sound I don't use the ring or ebony items because I think of my character as a good guy. If I recall correctly you have to do some pretty twisted stuff to get those items.

  12. Very true....the beauty of the game may be due its freedom, but truth be told it seems to reward some pretty dodgy behavior. I would have liked to have seen the equivalent of daedric quests related to the 9 divines as well to balance it out depending on your level of morality.

    1. In Oblivion, the Knights Of The Nine Expansion had the Knights Of The Nine Armor, which was awesome because you didn't have to repair it, you just needed to take it back to the altar, place it in there and then just put it on again.

The armor was for the "good guys" and if you committed a crime (killing innocents, stealing, etc) you lose the armor and you had to do all the pilgrimage to shrines all over again.

  13. Ya I would also have liked a fallout style karma system.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Very true.....That was definitely a plus.

I'm at least impressed they included the perk system and the Kill blows from Fallout. That definitely improved the gameplay and RPG system significantly.

I'm hoping the first expansion provides us with a great deal of change....not to say I dislike Skyrim. It's just with the flexibility of the engine and the SDK, they can probably change a lot of it.

  15. I completely agree. Another thing that would be nice would be some reaction to what you do in game. For example I killed Ulfric Stormcloak but I've only heard two people who aren't directly involved in the quest show any reaction to his death.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Definitely,.....the death of Ulfric Stormcloak would almost certainly be talked about by all NPC's in the game (considering his influence)

More empahasis should have been placed on events caused by the player that are THAT significant.

However, in Bethesda's defense......they already have an incredibly diverse world to deal with. They can't really include everything we want,...and every variation. I think at this point they're still spending their time ironing out the bugs (something that a few more months before release may have helped with as well.)

    1. Ya I guess so, still I think the game could have used some more polishing. In any case though I do think it's a great game.

      Delete
    2. Definitely. I think so too.

Great game. I love it in almost all respects.......except for the bugs.....and the more you play, the more annoying those bugs can be.

  17. Enchanting is easily better than most of these, being able to stack resistances and armor as appropriate does far more to competing in higher difficulty. Mods like Deadly Dragons end your game if you can't 80% resist all elements.

The Ring of Namira is definitely a cool item but pretty much any other ring worth mentioning is significantly better for most characters.
I value having one Double Sneak damage item and then magic resistance, armor fort, one-handed damage, and sneak fort in that order. I usually keep a soul trap/life steal dagger on my left hand and a non-enchanted Su Grah Dun dagger for my right hand.

    1. What is a Su Grah Dun dagger, isn't that the disarm shout?

  18. Surely the abilities of the Konahrik Mask would come in handy though. The possibility of regenerating all your health, and knocking back all opponents would be useful. (not to mention the possible summoning of a daedric priest)

  19. Seriously, cool it with the "......"

    Seriously.

I've never endured more pain reading something in my life.

Kill the "dot dot dot dot dot" thing... (note the correct usage and amount of periods there) please.

    ReplyDelete

    1. If you're spending your time reading the dots individually.....then yes it must be painful. (sorry, I seem to have wasted your time again there. oops) However, I use them to express breaks in my sentences and to provide more emotive expression in my comments. It's called artistic expression and although this is the most mundane use of it, it still applies. The fact that its use is in an unofficial regard(in other words, not in an official publication) should allow me some freedom in this, as with any other readers and those who wish to comment. If someone doesn't have a basic understanding of English, and manages to successfully relay their opinion or question......then it still remains useful. The last thing I want from having a comments section on my blog is a glorified argument on grammar. Speak your mind on the topic at hand, and let it be relevant to the conversation is all I ask!!!

  20. Regardless of the unique enchancements the items have, none are all really that great. I'd benefit 10x more wearing my custom daedric set. Why would I ever need to eat poeple to increase my max health and my regeneration rate? I had completed that quest early in the game and immediately stored it in my house because I would never have any use for it. I stored away my ebony mail because my sneak skill that reduces noise from my armor by 50% and my normal sneaking abilities make it a pointless piece of equipment. I did use the ebony blade because it was the stronger than my legendary daedric greatsword so no argument there. Lastly I don't care about the dragon preist mask. It may have the highest rating but it wont give you a 25% armor bonus for a matching set and since there is not set to match it so it's not really the strongest armor. Anyway, good read.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I found the daedric shield you are awarded unique and beneficial in the early stages in the game when dragons were still a major enemy. In later battles, like against dragon priests it was indispensable. That's if you aren't already a sneak/archer though haha.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I find the ring of namira very useful, as it functions as a reward for killing each humanoid, especially useful before boss fights.

    ReplyDelete
  23. this is a funny blog... so many angry people! i will never understand what these jerk- offs actually gain from complaining like that.... but ANYWAYS on the subject.... I LOVE the ebony mail, great piece of armor. BUT there is a lack of weapon diversity. i would kill to see some new weapon and armor sets with th upcoming DLC, but until then im stickin wiith double daedric swords.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't think the correct term is DPS, its actually DOT (damage over time). Other DOT effects in many games include poison, burn, or just standing on top of some sort of hazard.

    ReplyDelete
  25. You are completely right.

I will change it now. Thanks for the correction. I appreciate it.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Nice read, I disagree with all of them though because with the right heavy armor perks, smithing and enchanting skills daedric armor is simply untouchable, as are the weapons. But it is cool to see the interesting ways the game can be played. And because I played as a conjurer for the first 100 hours I found custom enchantments made my life much easier.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thanks man, I guess it comes to preference though. I feel that these items are more useful near the end of the leveling experience. By that stage you're so overpowered anyway that they definitely add to your "God-like abilities".

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think the best loadout is the Nahkriin (Mask), Daedric Armour (with +62 health and stamina), Daedric boots (with +49% One-handed and +62 stamina), Daedric Gaunlets (with +49% One-handed and archery), Gold Ring (+49% One-handed +62 health), Gold neclace (same enchantment as ring), Daedric mace (+38 frost + fire damage, total 309 dmg), Daedric shield (+49% block, +62 health). I haven't got the konahrik but i won't use it cos you still get the +25% armour bonus with the Nahkriin for matched set

    1. I got 769 armour, 858 health, 414 stamina, 262 magicka. My shield blocks what seams like all damage (i think dragons do about 5 damage). I AM A GOD!

      Delete
    2. The Daedric mace is nearly one-hit-kill on everything, with the exeption of Draugr Deathlords (and maybe scourge) which take two hits and Dragons which take between 1-4 hits.
