Asura's Wrath - Vengeance meets Madness

There's something to be said for Capcom's knack for high-paced and occasionally completely insane ways to style their gameplay.

Games like Street Fighter, Devil May Cry, Dead Rising and Resident Evil are prime examples of how intense a Capcom game can be, with everything from frenzied button combo's leaving your hands cramping, to heart-stopping chills when a zombie jumps out at you from the shadows.

The soon to be released "Asura's Wrath" looks to be no exception either, and in many ways looks to push the levels of intensity and madness further still.

Developed by CyberConnect2 and published by Capcom, Asura's Wrath is the story of an Immortal General and Demigod who served the Gods and defeated an enemy called "The Gohma".

When returning from the war, he finds that the Emperor has been murdered and instead of being welcomed back as a hero, is accused of the murder himself.

Eventually escaping the Imperial forces and returning home, he finds his wife murdered and daughter kidnapped.
His quest begins here to clear his name, rescue his daughter and start his own war against the Gods that he once served.

While on the surface the story may seem relatively standard (and similar to God of War) , it's the art style of the game and the ability of the combat to reach a point of complete overkill that makes this game stand out.

Structured like an Anime series, the game manages to make you feel Asura's Anger and allows you to pull off some pretty unlikely, yet superbly presented moves in your quest for Vengeance. The sheer scale of some of these battles is massive and seem larger than life, making you truly feel like you are battling the Gods.

Check out the trailer below:

The game's producer - Kazuhiro Tsuchiya, has described the game as a mix between Asian Mythology and Science fiction, and mentioned that Asura's fighting style will change according to the story.

A good example of this is that when Asura becomes angry, he develops 2 more pairs of arms and slowly begins to lose them as he loses a battle.

As you can see by the trailer, this game has the potential to be something special.

The Demo is currently available on Xbox Live and the PSN Network if you are wanting to try it out.

The game is released on the 24th of February.
